About the Event
Open Education Week is March 2-6! Join us on March 3 for a talk by AggieOpen Invited Speaker Katie Healey, founder of the A11Y Project and a scholar of disability history. Healey's talk, "From Free to Usable: The Accessibility Promise of OER," will explore how digital accessibility, Universal Design for Learning and upcoming ADA Title II requirements align with the broader mission of open education.
This virtual event (Zoom) is free to attend.
AggieOpen is a library program that promotes a more equitable and culturally relevant educational experience at UC Davis and beyond by helping instructors access, adapt, adopt, and author openly licensed course materials, known as Open Educational Resources (OER). Each Open Education Week, the AggieOpen team brings distinguished educators to share their OER research and work.

Grounded in a disability justice framework, Healey's work centers on advancing inclusive practices in higher education and challenging ableist structures in academia.
Through the A11Y Project sponsored by the University of California Office of the President, Healey supports more than 120 instructors across all 10 UC campuses in meeting Digital Accessibility standards. Launched in August, the course addresses designing for diverse learning needs, creating accessible course content and multimedia, and navigating legal and ethical dimensions of accessibility.
Healey also hosts the Disability Daily Podcast, where she highlights influential figures and pivotal moments in disability history, bringing historical insight and a justice-centered perspective to contemporary accessibility work.
