Hosted by DataLab

DataLab and colleagues from research computing and statistical service units across UC Davis offer weekly free virtual office hours during which UC Davis researchers can obtain help and advice on working with their data. During these short, just-in-time sessions we meet with faculty, students, postdoctoral scholars, and research staff from all domains across the University to discuss their research challenges.

Register in advance for the Zoom link. This helps us connect you to the right expert for your question.

In addition to DataLab, the collaborative data science office hours are supported by:

  • Biostatistics (Clinical and Translational Science Center, CTSC)
  • Computational Research Data Service (College of Letters & Science)
  • High Performance Computing (HPC) Core
  • Researcher Services (UC Davis Library)
  • Stat Lab (Department of Statistics)

Common office hours help topics include:

  • Open Source Programming (R, Python, Julia, etc.)
  • Reproducible research computing and data science
  • Responsible and ethical data science
  • Data gathering, organization, databases, and experimental design
  • Data analysis, statistics, and exploration
  • Data visualization
  • Machine learning and neural networks
  • Text mining and natural language processing
  • Geospatial sciences
  • Remote and high performance computing
  • Computational pedagogy
  • … and more!

Please note that drop-in office hours are not offered during University holidays, academic breaks and finals week. Summer schedule varies based on availability.

Note: Office hours are intended for short "just in time" research support. If you require extensive assistance we may refer you a recharge service, upcoming funding/project calls, and/or other resources. We are unable to provide support for assigned coursework (homework assignments, class projects, etc.) during office hours. If you need such help please contact your instructor or TA for assistance. If you need help with technical problems such system administration and hardware issues, check out the the UC Davis ServiceHub and/or contact your departmental IT.
